Summer 2023 Texas Craft Brewers Guild Government Affairs Update

L to R: Travis Bailey, Jeremy Roberts, Natalie Roberts, and Rep. Lloyd Doggett pose for a picture during the 2023 Brewers Association Hill Climb.

As we all try to stay cool throughout this brutal summer, things have been heating up on our government affairs fronts as we move away from the 88th Texas Legislature and progress through this first summer of the interim. Since the legislature officially went Sine Die, or into recess from its 88th Regular Session, the Governor has brought the House and Senate back not once, but twice already with a third special session looming its head in what is expected to be September. This is of course without mentioning the current impeachment proceedings facing our Attorney General and the active role many of our legislators will have in that. However, like everyone but Harvey Dent’s favorite coin, our Guild’s government affairs work is two-sided. This gives us the opportunity to focus on some regulatory issues facing our members as well as take some time to consider our approach and gameplanning to get ready for the 89th Texas Legislature.
