Quality Control Manager

Meanwhile Brewing Company is a 3-vessel, 15 bbl brewery and 600 seat taproom in Austin, TX. We are seeking a passionate, quality-focused, safety-driven, and team-oriented QC Lead to join our production team! We need an individual who is borderline obsessed with the process – and better yet, takes pride in the beer we make. Our QC Manager…
Performs meticulous, consistent record-keeping.
Maintains an obsessively clean and organized work environment.
Is responsible for brewery yeast management. As such, they perform cell counts and viability measurements, determine pitch rates, and assist with yeast propagation.
Evaluates and documents microbiological stability of beer in process and in package in accordance with QC guidelines using PCR.
Operates a Spectrophotometer to measure beer parameters such as VDK, IBUs, etc.
Monitors fermentation with daily sampling and testing of wort, in-process beer, and finished beer.
Coordinates weekly QA panel meetings with brewing staff.
Manages inventory and ordering of lab consumables.
Maintains cleanliness and functionality of analytical instruments.
Performs microbial audits on packaging line, fermentation tanks, and other brewing equipment.
Samples and analyzes brewing water chemistry.
Monitors, tracks, and tests (as-needed) incoming raw materials.
Operates a forklift and handles hazardous materials properly.
Has strong communication, planning, and organizational skills to ensure actions are taken as needed to ensure adherence to quality standards.
Assists in the maintenance of SOPs for the brewing department, as they pertain to quality and safety.
Assists with training for brewing staff on quality best practices.
Assists with miscellaneous brewery duties, including basic cellaring work and inventory.
Researches and stays up to date on current industry trends and developments in brewing science
Works with the Director of Brewing and Brewmaster to ensure wort and beer are in compliance with standards and adhere to brand specifications.
Requirements to Apply:
This is a full-time salaried position – that’s 40 hours each week with occasional overtime.
We’re working with beer here – you gotta be 21 years old with at least 1 year of brewing experience
Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, or similarly related field is preferred.
Ability to follow Standard Operating Procedures and to follow safety requirements is a must.
This job is physical. You’ll be lifting 55-165 pound kegs, twisting/turning, reaching over your shoulders, climbing stairs, working in hot/cold/wet conditions, bending/stooping, and standing/walking.
You must conduct yourself professionally while representing Meanwhile Brewing Co. whether in the taproom or at an event/competition.
You must be open to sharing ideas and suggestions with the team. Help us all be better brewers.
