After graduating from college with a Mathematics degree, I spent several years as a high school Math and Science teacher. Next, I pursued a Civil Engineering degree with an environmental focus from Southern Illinois University which has led to my thirty-year career in the beer business. I initially worked for a large brewer perfecting their water treatment processes and later gaining experience in all aspects of the brewing business including brewing, packaging, utilities, procurement, logistics, maintenance, and regulatory compliance. I have been the lead designer on numerous brewery projects from new processes to expansions. I completed my classroom Brewmaster training in 2002 which sealed my love for the science of brewing and inspired me to share my knowledge and continue to learn. I moved to the craft world in 2012 taking the position as the Director of Brewing for Gambrinus and immediately led the design efforts to increase the capacity of the Spoetzl Brewery and the continued refinement of our beers. It is a real privilege overseeing the oldest craft brewery in Texas. I take great pride in continuing the brewing traditions started in 1909 by Kosmos Spoetzl along with designing and introducing new beers for all to enjoy.
